What are the benefits to having a “Max volunteer” visit your classroom?
This is a great way to kick off your classroom’s participation in the Courage Curriculum. Many of our volunteers knew Max and can share their memories of him and his courage with your students.

Volunteers can help your students brainstorm ideas for their courage essays, and will reinforce the message that –while we cannot publish every essay—all students show courage and should be celebrated.     Volunteers can answer questions about the essay writing and judging process. Our volunteers are often accompanied by program staff and receive training and are prepared to lead supportive and engaging classroom discussions about courage (and what that means to different people), the importance of literacy skills, showing bravery by sharing your story, etc.  This component of our program supports participating teachers and helps students make a deeper connection with one another. Visits can be scheduled throughout the year, though most visits occur either in the fall (Late September, October and November) or as students begin to write their courage essays (December and January).  We will make every effort to honor your requests, based on volunteer availability.
Great, we love to visit classrooms!
